Here are the basics for getting into Florida law enforcement - there is usually a centrally located testing facility. Normally this is county related. The facility would take care of the basic testing - physical agility, swim, paper test. Some areas have a 1.5 mile run some are shorter with an obstacle course. After you take care of that testing you put the results with the applications that accept that testing location and send it to the departments. The departments each have their own process but normally they have an interview, poly or voice stress and then a psych. If you pass all those, there will be a doctor’s visit and drug test in there somewhere.

If you are already a law enforcement officer the state will review your time and training. If you have more than a few years experience and have been through a typical 400-hour or more academy, you will have to go through what Florida calls a comparative compliance course for high liability disciplines. I think this class is about 80 hours. This is a very common practice and therefore not complicated or difficult, compared to getting a leo job in NY....

Question: Are you currently accepting applications for certified police officers? I recently retired from Miami-Dade PD after completing DROP and wish to bring my skills/enthusiasm to Miami Springs PD

Thank-you,
