MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must have one of the following:
1. At least 48 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university with at minimum of a 2.0 grade point average;
2. A minimum of two years active duty in the United States armed forces and received an honorable discharge; OR
3. At least five years of full-time employment as a peace officer licensed by TCLEOSE or an equivalent licensing entity in another state.
• Must be between the ages of 21-44 years of age. (Must not turn 45 prior to oath of office; Applicants may enter the police academy at 20 years of age but must be 21 upon graduation.)
• Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of the United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a comprehensive background investigation. Consideration given for military overseas assignments.
• Must Pass a Physical Agility Test.
• Weight must be in proportion to height.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
• Must not have received more than two moving traffic violations within an 18-month period preceding the date of application. In addition, driving record should reflect prudence and maturity.
• Must not have ever been convicted of or received community supervision for a Class A Misdemeanor or Felony.
• Must not have been convicted of or received community supervision for a Class B Misdemeanor within the past 10 years.
• Former military personnel must not have been convicted of any court-martial higher than a summary.
• Must have a stable credit history, family background and employment background.
