On May 10, 2011 the Fourteenth Annual Police Unity Tour will begin. In May 1997, the Police Unity Tour® was organized by Officer Patrick P. Montuore of the Florham Park (NJ) Police Department. The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum.

Each year hundreds of sworn law enforcement officers (active and retired) and immediate family members of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty (survivors) participate as RIDERS in this event. The Police Unity Tour is a 3-day, 250-mile ride to Washington D.C., where other Chapters join together. The unified group of over 1,200 law enforcement officers and survivors complete their 250-mile journey, riding the final 2 miles to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

Our organization raises money through family and friends, bake sales, and a variety of other forms of donations. Each RIDER must raise a minimum of $1800 to participate in the ride. RIDERS must have a bike and the proper equipment for the long ride. It is up to the RIDER to arrange for transportation to the departure site and return from Washington, DC.

Police Unity Tour
Our motto, “WE RIDE FOR THOSE WHO DIED” truly demonstrates the spirit of this event. It wasn’t until losing a co-worker of own, Hollywood Police Officer Alex Del Rio (EOW 11/22/08) that we (Hollywood Police Department) learned of the Police Unity Tour. Last year (2010 Police Unity Tour) we represented the City of Hollywood with six Hollywood Riders. We rode in Memory of a Fallen Officer as well as our six Hollywood Fallen Officers, who had never been ridden for. They finally made the trip with us in 2010!
